I have been going through some books from my childhood and I have stumbled upon this great gem called “The Little House.” “The Little House” is a Caldecott Medal award winning book by Virginia Lee Burton and it is about how a small house learns the true meaning of “There’s no place like home” when a growing civilization is built around it over the years.
The Little House is a 1942 book written and illustrated by Virginia Lee Burton.
The Little House sits in the pastoral countryside and watches as bit by bit roads, buildings and finally a full city surround it. The family that owned it drifts away and it sits empty. Will the now run-down and forgotten little house find a new life?
The Little House is the main character of this story she she truly develops human characteristics through her heart-wrenching journey of love and abandonment. Having originally been built in the countryside, we watch the Little House enjoy the changing of seasons and the lives of the people living in her.
As progress brings the city directly around a little house, she grows more and more depressed.
